Use neutral light and an honest photograph
Place the stone against a plain background in indirect daylight. Avoid colored lighting, filters and saturation edits. Show the whole stone and any setting; describe what the photo actually reveals rather than what a seller claimed.
Read candidates alongside lookalikes
Different minerals, glass and synthetic materials can share a color. The tool returns a cautious shortlist and explains missing evidence. It may be unable to narrow the image beyond a broad material group.
Separate visible appearance from laboratory properties
A photo does not measure refractive index, density or a spectrum. It also cannot reliably distinguish natural from laboratory-grown material or rule out treatment. Do not scratch, heat or chemically test a mounted or valuable stone.
Confirm before buying, selling or insuring
